Afghanistan Suffers Yet Another Earthquake

On this date, rescue workers tirelessly sifted through rubble for villagers who were buried in their homes by a series of earthquakes. These devastating quakes claimed the lives of over 2,000 people in rural western Afghanistan, though hope of finding survivors was dwindling rapidly. Herat, Afghanistan, October 9, 2023. The latest, 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck areas northeast of Herat city Sunday morning local time. According to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of Monday evening local time, two people were reported to have been killed and over 150 injured in the latest quake.
