Transhumance Festival - Madrid
Several people watch the transhumant flock as it passes the Almudena Cathedral on October 22, 2023, in Madrid (Spain). Some 2,000 sheep and goats have traveled from the northern pastures of Castilla y León, from where they left last September 18, to arrive today, October 22, in Madrid, after almost five weeks of travel. The Transhumance Festival has been held annually since 1994 to vindicate the role of transhumance and extensive livestock farming as a tool for the conservation of biodiversity and the fight against climate change. This event is organized by the Asociación Trashumancia y Naturaleza in collaboration with the Asociación Concejo de la Mesta, Fundación MAVA, Ayuntamiento de Madrid and Fundación WWF/Adena España.
