Twin festivals of Dussehra and Durga Puja were celebrated with much gaiety and fervor across India on Tuesday, as people came out in the best of their attires, exchanging greetings, gifts and sweets.
To mark the festival of Dussehra, which symbolizes the victory of good over evil, the effigies of demon Ravana, his brother Kumbhkaran and son Meghnad were burnt in the evening.
It is believed that on the day of Dussehra Lord Ram killed the demon Ravana to get his wife Sita released from the latter's custody.
