International Day against Violence against Women - Madrid

This march has been called by the Madrid Forum Against Violence Against Women (Foro 25N), which has organized it every year since 1997 on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, under the slogan 'Citizen Unity and response to institutional violence'. The aim of this march is to call for the "unity" of society against male violence and to demand that the public authorities act "more effectively and in a more decisive manner". November 25 was chosen in 1999 by the UN to commemorate the assassination in the Dominican Republic in 1960 of the Mirabal sisters, political activists who opposed the dictatorship of the then dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.
