Iran-Dried Lake Of Urmia
A bridge and dried lands are appearing on the south side of Lake Urmia at sunset in West Azerbaijan Province, about 604 km (375 miles) northwest of Tehran, Iran, on January 14, 2014. Once the largest lake in the Middle East and the sixth-largest saltwater lake on Earth, Lake Urmia is standing as a majestic expanse of salt and water, nestled between the East and West Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran. This remarkable body of water, known as an endorheic salt lake, is holding a unique place in the region's natural heritage. (Photo by Morteza Nikoubazl/NurPhoto)
