Iran-Basij Paramilitary Force
Two members of the Basij special paramilitary force are monitoring an area while standing guard during a military rally in downtown Tehran, Iran, on November 26, 2014. The Basij, officially known as the Niru-ye Moqavemat-e Basij, is a volunteer paramilitary force in Iran under the command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It was founded on April 30, 1979, by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, to defend the revolution and its values.
