Iran-Basij Paramilitary Force

The Basij, officially known as the Niru-ye Moqavemat-e Basij, is a volunteer paramilitary force in Iran that operates under the command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It was founded on April 30, 1979, by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, with the purpose of defending the revolution and its values.
