Toque Macaques In Sri Lanka

A toque macaque is stealing food from the worship place at the pilgrimage site in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, on January 13, 2024. The toque macaque (Macaca sinica) is a reddish-brown-colored Old World monkey endemic to Sri Lanka, known locally as the rilewa or rilawa. Its name is derived from the whorl of hair at the crown of the head, which resembles a brimless toque cap. (Photo by Thilina Kaluthotage/NurPhoto)
