Farmers Protest In Toulouse

A farmer is waiting on his tractor as members of the FDSEA and JA farmers unions are protesting in Toulouse, France, on January 16, 2024. They are calling on the government for assistance and are demonstrating against the rise in water usage fees, taxes on biocides, and the application of the EGAlim law. They are also urging the French government to cut bureaucratic obstacles. During the protest, farmers are blocking the streets and pouring manure and waste at the entrance of buildings housing several agriculture-related agencies, including Ademe, the Adour-Garonne water agency, and the OFB (French Office for Biodiversity). Some farmers are attempting to break into the building but are being stopped by Gendarmerie and Police officers. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
