WHO: Beat Leprosy
A person with leprosy is praying during their hospitalization at Sicanang Leprosy Special Hospital in Medan, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, on February 25, 2012. The World Health Organization is promoting ''Beat Leprosy'' as the theme for World Leprosy Day 2024. They are aiming to eliminate the stigma associated with leprosy and to uphold the dignity of those affected by the disease. The commemoration is intended to remind people of the importance of addressing both the social and psychological impacts of leprosy, as well as the medical efforts to eradicate it. This initiative encourages the world to recognize that leprosy should no longer be seen as a source of stigma, but rather as an opportunity to show compassion and respect for everyone.
