WHO: Beat Leprosy
A patient with leprosy is smoking cigarettes during their hospitalization at Sicanang Leprosy Special Hospital in Medan, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, on February 25, 2012. The World Health Organization is promoting ''Beat Leprosy'' as the theme for World Leprosy Day 2024. They are working to eradicate the stigma associated with leprosy and to uphold the dignity of those affected by the disease. The commemoration is serving as a reminder to address both the social and psychological aspects of leprosy, as well as the medical efforts to eliminate it. This initiative is encouraging the world to understand that leprosy should no longer be a source of stigma, but an opportunity to show compassion and respect for all individuals.
