STORYLINE:
As the new year unfolds, Togo has embraced the sugarcane harvesting season. In the sugarcane fields of the SINTO sugar factory, situated approximately 170 kilometers north of Lome, the capital of Togo, a fleet of vehicles laden with sugarcane maneuvers through the land.
As a collaborative development project between China and Togo, the SINTO sugar factory was formally handed over to the Togolese government on January 9, 1987. The factory currently yields an average of around 80,000 tonnes of sugarcane and 7,000 tonnes of white sugar annually, constituting approximately 25 percent of local consumption.
