Strike And Protests For Public Schooling
A teacher is holding a placard that reads, ''In Singapore, 100 hours per year of training in maths, France 18 hours all included per year.'' Teachers, professors, and students are striking and marching through the streets of Toulouse, France, on February 1, 2024, against the new Minister of National Education, Amelie Oudea-Castera, and the insufficient resources for public schools. The minister is embroiled in controversies, including enrolling her children in a private Catholic school that segregates students by gender and circumventing the mandatory 'Parcours Sup' process for one of her children to gain admission to a school, college, or university. Protesters are calling for her resignation, as Amelie Oudea-Castera has also approved public funding for the private Stanislas school, where her children attend. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
