Chiefdom is a common form of political organization in Cameroon in the past, which is generally composed of one or several villages or communities controlled by the chief. Today, the chiefdom has lost most of its traditional power, but the chief still has influence as a spiritual leader in the chiefdom. Batoufam chiefdom located in the West region of Cameroon was established at the end of the 16th century and is reigned now by the 14th chief. The palace of the chiefdom includes more than ten kinds of houses with different functions, such as bedroom, assembly hall, servant residence and garden. In 2012, some areas of the palace were transformed into museum and opened to public. (Xinhua/Kepseu)
