Bolsonaro Demonstration
In Sao Paulo, Brazil, on January 25, 2024, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is addressing a crowd of supporters from atop a sound truck on Avenida Paulista in the central region of Sao Paulo this Sunday. Adopting a more moderate tone than on other occasions and wary of any confrontation with the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Bolsonaro is claiming to be persecuted because of his actions and is advocating for amnesty for those imprisoned for involvement in the invasion of the Three Powers buildings on January 8th and the coup attempts: ''We have already granted amnesty in the past to those who committed atrocities in Brazil,'' he is assessing. The former president is also rejecting the possibility of a coup. ''A coup involves tanks in the streets. It's weapons. It's conspiracy. It's bringing political and business classes to your side. That's a coup. None of this has been done in Brazil,'' he is affirming. (Photo by Gustavo Basso/NurPhoto)
