Nepali Buddhists Mark The Festival Of Samyak Mahadan
Idols of Buddha are being lined up at the Nagbaha in the ancient city of Lalitpur, Nepal, for the Samyak Mahadan on March 14, 2024. Observed every five years, the Viharas within the Kathmandu Valley are bringing out all the idols of Buddha, with thousands of devotees queuing to worship and offer alms. This festival has been celebrated in Lalitpur for more than seven centuries, having started from Nepal Sambat 135 or 1015 AD, during the Licchavi Period in Nepal's ancient history.
