Procession Of The Madonna Desolata
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Image was converted to black and white) Women are singing with their faces covered during the procession for the Madonna Desolata in Canosa di Puglia, Italy, on March 30, 2024. The procession, which brings life to the streets of Canosa di Puglia from the early hours of Holy Saturday, is a true performance. Approximately 400 women are participating, all dressed in black with their faces covered, creating an atmosphere that is both intense and emotional. The organization of the event and the large number of visitors it draws from across Apulia and beyond make the Desolata one of the most evocative and participatory Holy Week rites.
