Philippines Light Electric Vehicle Restriction Protest
Cyclists are accompanying a man who is driving an electric tricycle during a ride-out protest to the headquarters of the Metro Manila Development Agency (MMDA) in Quezon City, northeast of Manila, Philippines, on April 10, 2024. They are protesting against the MMDA's moves to restrict and regulate the use of light electric vehicles (LEVs). Mobility and commuter advocates, along with users of LEVs such as electric tricycles, electric bicycles, and electric scooters, are opposing the metropolitan office's move, arguing that it is anti-poor, reduces commuting options, is environmentally unsustainable, and violates the country's Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, or the EVIDA Law.
