Lazarus Ritual In Bulgaria.
Children from the village of Gabra in Western Bulgaria are performing a Lazarus ritual on April 27, 2024. Lazaruvane is a traditional procession that takes place the day before Palm Sunday. They are stopping from house to house, performing songs and blessing the homes, while accepting small presents and food from the hosts. Historians and anthropologists believe that the ritual originated from the Roman festival Rosalia, which was popularized in Southeastern Europe by the Romans after their conquest of the Balkans in the 2nd century B.C.
