Jatayu Earth Center
Monkeys are gathering outside the Jatayu Rama Temple at the Jatayu Earth Center in Chadayamangalam, Kerala, India, on April 6, 2024. The sculpture of Jatayu here is the world's largest bird sculpture. According to legend, Jatayu was a demi-god in the Hindu epic Ramayana who took the form of a vulture. When the demon king Ravana was abducting Sita to Lanka, Jatayu attempted to rescue her. Despite fighting valiantly, Jatayu was defeated by Ravana, who clipped his wing. Jatayu then fell onto the rocks in Chadayamangalam, which is believed to be the exact location of this sculpture. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
