ICJ Delivers Order On Nicaragua V Germany Case

The German delegation and legal team are inside the courtroom. Tania von Uslar-Gleichen, the German diplomat leading Germany's legal team at the ICJ, is on the left, and Christian J. Tams is on the right. The top United Nations court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, is currently rejecting Nicaragua's request to block Germany from selling weapons to Israel. The judges have voted 15 against 1 and have rejected the request for an emergency order that would direct Germany to halt arms sales to Israel during a plausibly genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza. The court has concluded that, at present, the circumstances do not require the exercise of its power to indicate provisional measures, as ICJ President Nawaf Salam wrote in the ruling. Outside The Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, on April 30, 2024, a protest supporting Palestine and Nicaragua is taking place.
