ICJ Delivers Order On Nicaragua V Germany Case
The Nicaraguan delegation, along with their legal team, is standing together. Carlos Jose Arguello Gomez, who is the head of Nicaragua's legal team and Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is on the right, while Carlos Jose is on the left. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague is currently rejecting Nicaragua's request to block Germany from selling weapons to Israel. The judges have voted 15 against 1, rejecting the request for an emergency order that would direct Germany to halt arms sales to Israel amid a conflict with Palestinians in Gaza that Nicaragua claims could be genocidal. The ICJ President, Nawaf Salam, has written in the ruling that the court concludes the current circumstances do not require the exercise of its power to indicate provisional measures. Outside of The Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, on April 30, 2024, a protest in support of Palestine and Nicaragua is taking place.
