Iran-Daily Life In Iran’s First Ever Nuclear Seaport City Of Bushehr

An Iranian shopkeeper is sitting at a hat shop in a bazaar in Bushehr, Iran, on April 28, 2024. Bushehr is Iran's first nuclear seaport city, located in Bushehr province on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf, 1090km (677 miles) south of Tehran. In 1975, Iran signed a contract with the German company Siemens to construct the Bushehr nuclear power plant to provide electricity and diversify energy resources. The construction was halted due to the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and Germany ceased work because of political sanctions. After years of delay, Iran reached an agreement with Russia in 2004 to complete the project. The Bushehr nuclear power plant became fully operational and connected to the national electricity grid in 2011, marking it as Iran's first and only active nuclear power plant.
