Oren, 35, is a doctoral student in Hebrew literature. Oren protested against the 2014 Gaza war from day one, but this time, he says, it feels completely different. “Initially, we felt that demonstrating would jeopardize the safety of the Israeli hostages in Gaza or disrespect those killed in southern Israel on 7 October. The police response to the first few demonstrations compounded those fears.
