Cyclone Remal
Tropical Cyclone Remal is expected to make landfall on May 26 as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by the evening of Saturday, May 25, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Officials have stated that the cyclone is likely to make landfall with wind speeds of 110-120 km/h, gusting up to 135 km/h. Cyclone Remal is predicted to bring heavy rains and precipitation to Bangladesh and the adjoining regions of West Bengal and Odisha, as reported by the IMD. Additionally, a red alert has been issued by the IMD for the coastal districts of South and North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, where extremely heavy rain is expected in some areas. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for the districts of Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia, and Purba Medinipur for May 26 and 27. In Tehatta, Nadia, West Bengal, sudden dark clouds hovered ahead of the landfall of Cyclone Remal on May 25, 2024.
