Thousands Rally In Protest At Azerbaijan Land Transfer - Yerevan
Thousands of Armenians assembled in Republic Square for a rally, in Yerevan, Armenia on May 26, 2024, where Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the Tavush for the Homeland movement and Primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church, was declared as Armenia's prime ministerial candidate. Speaking to reporters on Monday, May 27, Galstanyan affirmed his commitment to retaining his spiritual title while temporarily suspending his spiritual duties. He stressed that his involvement was motivated not by politics but by the cause of national liberation. Galstanyan has requested the Catholicos of All Armenians to pause his 30-year spiritual service. The Tavush for the Homeland movement, under the guidance of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, commenced a march from the Kirants border village of Tavush Province to Yerevan on May 4, culminating in their arrival in the capital on May 9.
