Pope Francis Commemorates 2014 Invocation For Peace In Holy Land - Vatican
Pope Francis leads a ‘Prayer for Peace’ in the Vatican Gardens on June 7, 2024 commemorating the 10th anniversary of the ‘Invocation for Peace’ in the same place with the then-leaders of Israel and Palestine. The event commemorated a historic gathering on 8 June 2014, when Pope Francis, the then-President of the State of Israel, Shimon Peres, the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, made history by praying together and planted an olive tree for peace. Pope Francis renewed his appeals for a ceasefire to end the war in Gaza, and to release Israeli hostages. Present with the Pope in the Vatican Gardens on the evening of 7 June 2024, Rabbi Alberto Funaro and Abdellah Redouane, Secretary General of the Italian Islamic Cultural Centre and the ambassadors of the States of Israel and Palestine to the Holy See.
