New Rally Against The Extreme Right In Paris
Several thousand demonstrators are setting off in a procession shortly after 10 p.m., with the forces of law and order attempting to disperse the march using tear gas and charges after protesters are gathering at the Place de la Republique to demonstrate against the victory of the French far-right party Rassemblement National (RN) in the European elections, taking a position of strength in the early legislative elections called by the French President after the election results, in Paris, France, on June 10, 2024. Analysts are saying the French leader is taking the extremely risky gamble of dissolving the national parliament in a bid to keep the far-right Rassemblement National (RN) party out of power when his second term ends in 2027, after the far right is crushing his centrist alliance in the June 9, 2024, EU ballot. The announcement is sparking widespread alarm across France, even from within the ranks of his own party. (Photo by Jerome Gilles/NurPhoto)
