Malta and six other countries on Wednesday signed the United Nations (UN) Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships, also known as the Beijing Convention on the Judicial Sale of Ships.
During a ceremony presided over by Malta's President Myriam Spiteri Debono, the document was signed by Croatia, Cyprus, Italy, Malta, Spain, Cote d'Ivoire, and Antigua and Barbuda.
The document, adopted in 2022 by the UN General Assembly, is aimed at solving cross-border recognition of judicial sale of ships, which helps protect the incentives of financial institutions in ship financing and promote the development of international shipping and trade.
