Peru: M7.2 Quake Jolts Southern Region 2
A strong 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southern Peru off the coast west of Atiquipa early Friday, June 28. The shaking was felt as far as the capital, Lima, around 600 kilometers away.
At least eight people were injured, officials said. A warning of a "possible" tsunami was issued, but the alert was later dropped.
