Toulouse: First Round Of The Legisltaive Elections
People are queuing to vote in a polling station. More than 49 million voters are being called to the ballot box. At noon, the participation level is at 25.9%, up 7% compared to the last legislative elections in 2022. It is the highest rate since the 1981 legislative elections. The number of proxy votes is also near an all-time high at more than 2 million. The left and the far-left are unionizing in a new umbrella called 'Front Populaire' (i.e., 'Popular Front'). President Emmanuel Macron is calling a snap legislative election, to be held in two rounds on June 30 and July 7, after his centrist alliance was trounced by the RN in the last European Parliament ballot.
