Organizations March In Favor Of Animals In Mexico City

Various organizations in favor of the rights of non-human animals are holding a protest in the rain at the Angel of Independence in the Zocalo of Mexico City, expressing their repudiation of mistreatment and cruelty towards animals. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI, for its acronym in Spanish), Mexico is the first place in Latin America (and third in the world) with the highest number of cases of animal abuse. In Mexico City, animal abuse is punishable by sentences of 6 months to 2 years in prison and fines of $3,100 to $6,200 pesos. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
