Pushpa Kamal Dahal- Prachanda Loses Vote Of Confidence As Prime Minister
Devraj Ghimire (C), Speaker of Nepal's House of Representatives, is standing in respect of the national anthem along with other parliament secretariat members in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 12, 2024, during a parliamentary meeting. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, is tabling a confidence motion in the parliament, which is being rejected by about two-thirds of the lawmakers, ousting him from the post of Prime Minister. Dahal, who has been in office for over one year and six months, is requiring 138 votes to pass the trust motion but is receiving only 63 votes in his favor. Out of the 275-member House of Representatives, 194 lawmakers are voting against him, while one member is abstaining. A total of 258 lawmakers are present during the meeting.
