The Polish Army is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising at Jan Matejko Square in Krakow, Poland, on August 1, 2024. On August 1, 1944, at 5:00 p.m. - the 'W' hour, the Warsaw Uprising began, with the aim of liberating the capital from German occupation before the Red Army entered. The uprising was supposed to last a few days, but it fell only on October 3 after 63 days of fighting.
