Washington DC: Candlelight Vigil In Honor Of The Martyrs Of The Quota Movement In Bangladesh
Amad Mahbub, a Bangladeshi artist, is giving a speech while the Bangladeshi community is holding a candlelight vigil in McPherson Square, Washington DC, USA, on August 11, 2024, to pay tribute to the martyred students who are dying in the quota movement in Bangladesh. After mass killings by the law enforcement agency, the quota movement is turning into an anti-government protest that is leading to an uprising that ends the 15-year authoritarian rule of Sheikh Hasina. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus and his newly named interim government are setting out on August 9 after a student-led uprising and deadly mass protests force Sheikh Hasina into exile.
