Dersu Uzala bronze statue near Vladivostok
Photo taken Aug. 20, 2024, shows bronze statues of Russian explorer Vladimir Arsenyev (R) and his guide from the Nanai indigenous people, Dersu Uzala, erected on Aug. 18 in front of Vladivostok International Airport in Artyom, near the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok. Their expedition in the early 20th century into the coastal area of the region was made into the Japan-Soviet film Dersu Uzala, directed by Akira Kurosawa, in 1975.
