Naina Devi Temple
Hundreds of bells adorn the Maa Naina Devi Temple in Nainital, Uttarakhand, India, on April 21, 2024. Naina Devi Temple is a famous Indian pilgrimage destination and one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, where the severed body parts of Goddess Sati fall, associated with the cult of Goddess Durga. Goddess Naini Devi is the deity of Naina Devi Temple and is represented by her two eyes. The temple is called Naina, literally meaning eyes, Devi. It is said that Naina Devi Temple is the place where the eyes from the burned body of Goddess Sati fall when her corpse is carried by Lord Shiva. Devotees from faraway places come here to take the blessing of Maa Naini Devi. Naina Devi Temple is located at the northern end of Naini Lake in the center of Nainital city.
