Hora Sfakion Coast Town In Crete Island

A man swims at Ilingas Beach near Hora Sfakion in Crete, Greece, on August 28, 2024. Hora Sfakion is a popular town on the south coast of Crete, touching the Libyan Sea in the Mediterranean. It is the capital of the remote and mountainous Sfakia region. The town connects to the mainland by ferry through a small dock and road. During the summer, it is a famous destination for tourists due to its beaches with crystal clear water and proximity to canyons, gorges like Imbros Gorge, and the White Mountains, Lefka Ori. Many hikers, after crossing Samaria Gorge, continue trekking to Hora Sfakion or pass through there via the connecting ferry from Agia Roumeli, Loutro, or Gavdos Island.
