Tribute Ceremony For Gendarme Killed During A Road Check - Nice
Outgoing Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin attends a tribute ceremony for French gendarme Eric Comyn, five days after he was fatally run down at a traffic check by a driver with multiple past convictions, in Nice, southern France on September 2, 2024. The widow of the French gendarme, who was fatally run down on August 28 in Mougins, blamed government "laxity" for her husband's death. The incident has again fuelled debates about law and order in France which were a major feature of legislative elections earlier this summer where the far right recorded major gains.
