Portugal Proposes A New Tourist Tax

A general view of the Roman ruins of Evora in Evora, Portugal, on November 5, 2023. The mayor of Evora, Carlos Pinto de Sa, announces plans to introduce a tourist tax in early 2025. Regarding the amount, he mentions that in 2019, a fee of one euro per night is proposed, but this time, the municipality may opt for a higher rate, aligning with many cities that implement larger charges. Pinto de Sa also estimates that by the end of 2023, Evora sees nearly 700,000 overnight stays from tourists. (Photo by Luis Boza/NurPhoto via Getty Images) (Photo by Luis Boza/NurPhoto)
