10 years after Mt. Ontake eruption
Members of a mountain rescue team from Gero in Gifu Prefecture, central Japan, observe a moment of silence for the victims of the 2014 Mt. Ontake eruption at 11:52 a.m. on Sept. 27, 2024, the time of the eruption exactly 10 years ago, near the mountain's summit. The team members were involved in the rescue operations of Japan's deadliest postwar volcanic disaster that left 58 people dead and five others unaccounted for.
