Badlands National Park
Badlands National Park encompasses more than 244,000 acres in the southwest corner of South Dakota. It is known for jagged peaks, wind-eroded ridges, and a stark landscape. The Native American Tribe Lakota refers to the area as ''Mako sica,'' which translates to ''very bad lands'' due to the lack of vegetation, water, and inhospitable conditions.
