Air Pollution Increases In Nepal With Onset Of Winter
Parts of Kathmandu Valley are shrouded under a thick blanket of polluted smog with the onset of winter, causing the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the bowl-shaped valley to dip to unhealthy levels on October 17, 2024. According to the reading from the air pollution station of the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the AQI of Kathmandu on October 17 is 155, making the air of Kathmandu Valley unhealthy. Nepal annually faces the problem of air pollution in winter as pollutants from the burning of stubbles in Indian states are carried and deposited into the valley by wind currents.
