Cyclone Dana - Severe Cyclonic Storm
The Indian Meteorological Department recently issued a cyclone warning for residents in the northwest and central Bay of Bengal as Cyclone Dana, a ''severe cyclonic storm,'' moves northwest at 12 kmph. Heavy rainfall has already impacted parts of Odisha and West Bengal. Currently hovering over the east-central Bay of Bengal, Cyclone Dana is expected to intensify into a severe storm, with landfall likely tonight between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port. Wind speeds are forecasted to reach between 100-110 kmph, with gusts up to 120 kmph, classifying it as a tropical storm--one of the most destructive weather phenomena on Earth. Since morning, the sky in West Bengal has been dark and cloudy, with rain and strong gusts, while birds have been displaying increased activity in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on October 24, 2024, ahead of the approaching storm.(Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
