Israel-Bedouin Camel Racing
Israeli Bedouin riders participate in the first official camel race in the Negev Desert, southern Israel, on November 1, 2024. Camel racing, a traditional and popular activity in Middle Eastern countries and particularly among the Bedouin community, had been illegal in Israel due to animal protection laws, with authorities recently thwarting illegal races, including one in early October 2024 in the Negev Desert. In cooperation with government entities, the Bedouin community organized this sanctioned 12-kilometer race, featuring 40 Bedouin camel riders and drawing thousands of spectators.
