Annakut Festival In Kolkata
Hindu devotees participate in the 'Annakut' or 'Govardhan Puja' festival at the Madan Mohan temple in Kolkata, India, on November 2, 2024. Govardhan Puja is celebrated a day after Diwali, on the fourth day of the five-day Hindu festival. Occasionally, there is a day gap between Diwali celebrations and Govardhan Puja. According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on the first lunar day called 'Ekam' of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight of the moon) in the month of Kartik. It forms an integral part of Diwali celebrations. Govardhan Puja commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over Indra. (Photo by Debajyoti Chakraborty/NurPhoto)
