Prototype of Peace Statue in Nagasaki
A 15-centimeter-tall prototype of the Peace Statue in Nagasaki's Peace Park goes on public display on Nov. 9, 2024, at a prison in Isahaya in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Nagasaki. Sculptor Seibo Kitamura, the statue's creator, donated the prototype to the prison in 1959 to mourn the 134 prisoners and prison staff killed when the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of Nagasaki hit as they were at a prison unit located near Ground Zero.
