Steam locomotive Hitoyoshi

The steam locomotive Hitoyoshi is seen on display at Kyushu Railway Co.'s Hitoyoshi Station in Hitoyoshi in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Kumamoto on Nov. 17, 2024, a day before it goes on public display. The locomotive, built over 100 years ago, ran its last commercial service in March 2024, when it was part of a sightseeing train.

                    Mandarin ducks are seen at a river in the town of Hino in Tottori Prefecture, western Japan, on Oct. 31, 2024, after flying in from the north. As of Nov. 11, about 400 Mandarin ducks were spotted on the river, a popular stopover for the birds in the wintering season, with around 800 expected to fly in by the end of March 2025.
