Sumo: Ex-yokozuna Kitanofuji dies at 82
Sumo wrestler Kitanofuji celebrates his first career victory at a grand tournament in Osaka, western Japan, in March 1967, with the trophy. The 10-time grand sumo tournament champion and former yokozuna, whose real name was Katsuaki Takezawa and who mentored two grand champions including the legendary Chiyonofuji before becoming a popular TV sumo pundit, died on Nov. 12, 2024, at the age of 82, according to media.
