Sumo: Ex-yokozuna Kitanofuji dies at 82
Yokozuna Kitanofuji forces fellow yokozuna Tamanoumi out of the ring in Tokyo in May 1971, winning the summer grand tournament without losing a single match. The 10-time grand sumo tournament champion, whose real name was Katsuaki Takezawa and who mentored two grand champions including the legendary Chiyonofuji before becoming a popular TV sumo pundit, died on Nov. 12, 2024, at the age of 82, according to media.
